The Last of Us: Review

734153_383164761802026_356915988_n

Let me start off by saying Naughty Dog has done it again! From beginning to end, this game had it all. There was a great balance of drama, action, and even humor as well. But what can you expect from the powerhouse company that gave hits series like Crash Bandicoot, Uncharted and Jax & Daxter! This isn’t your normal action/adventure zombie “Shoot ‘em up” game you guys, this one has depth to it.

Story

So without spoiling anything (man this is so hard to do) the story follows Joel as he travels around with a teenager name Ellie to, at first, “smuggle” her outside of Boston. But do to a series of events (see no spoilers) they end up traveling to places like Wyoming and Salt Lake City.  The enemies in the story are not just the Zombies, but normal humans and boy…are there plenty of them. lou 1  You will run into bandits, scavengers and even the rebellion group The Fireflies. You will also fight against mutated fugal zombies (that just sounds nasty). Here’s a hint for you…There are four types or stages to fight: runners, stalkers, clickers and bloaters. The bloaters are the most aggressive and dangerous, so stay FAR FAR away and hit them with Molotov cocktails and use shotguns.

Gameplay

The gameplay is your typical 3rd person action adventure/shooter. It has great stealth moments in the game, if you choose to do this…however I didn’t and had to fight my way through hordes of zombies and bandits every time. Be very cautious of your ammo as it is VERY scarce in this game. You are able to you bottles, bricks, bats, axes and more for you melee battles. media_xl_5939990 Sound attracts all enemies so be careful not to run through this game like a mad man or woman, it will get you killed.

Graphics

This game looks good…I mean really good. The attention to detail for this game is astounding. From the actual gameplay to the cut scenes, nothing has a short cut what-so-ever. I even made sure to see if there were any glitches in the game (like phasing through walls, suspended in limbo, etc.) but did not find any at all. Please let me know if you find any at all, because I didn’t. Now as for the cut scenes – Amazing and it wasn’t too many to take away from the gameplay. the-last-of-us-e3-2012-433x243 It was conveniently placed and pretty much kept you excited to continue. Come on, we’ve all played those games that took you out of that mind set to kick ass…like long cut scenes (I’m looking at you Metal Gear Solid 4…yeah…called you out!). And I would like to say great soundtrack…bravo to this as it can really take away from the game.

Overall this game is a great buy and I hope you all decide to pick this game up. It is worth picking up now. Don’t miss out on the story of Joel and Ellie (who I still think looks a lot like Ellen Paige regardless of the changes to her image). I can really see why this was a highly anticipated game, from start to finish you get you fill of zombie goodness. So have at it zombie lovers and pick up you copy of this game today and tell me what you think about it! Do you love it or hate it? I look forward to hear from you all!

Xbox Reveal Review

xbox-one-family-mid630      So after just watching the Xbox Reveal, I must say that I am not that impressed. I took way to long for Microsoft to get blu ray, but at least they have it now. This is one of the few things that Sony had over them. Not to see how this will change the game. They did not say that the games are on blu ray discs, we must wait for a confirmation on that. The Xbox One (odd name considering this is the 3rd Xbox) looks like a hybrid between a PS3 and the latest 360. Plus it looks more bulky, which is a huge back step if they JUST scaled down the 360. Wi-Fi is also included with the system, same as the current Xbox Slim. Lovely the option to browse the internet while watching a movie. People with short attention spans will love this feature very much.

The controller is nice, seems like they finally listened to the consumers and decided to change the d-pad. And the Xbox logo is moved to the top of the controller. But from what Microsoft was explaining you won’t even need the controller when you watch TV (yes you can switch to your regular tv show through the system). You can also turn on the System just by speaking “Xbox On!”  The system will then go to your profile awaiting your next command. But I wonder how this will work on say a family household. Will your kids, wife, husband, etc. be recognized to play through your profile or will they be prompted to create a new profile? These thing should be explained in more detail.

The new Kinect looks bulky…no…block-y…? From what was shown, then Kinect is very responsive. But so was the current Kinect. I’m guessing it depends in the placement of the Kinect and the lighting and all of that mess huh. Microsoft stated that the Kinect have so many new additions like better cameras and more. Will we get to see it in action during E3? Hope so, because this can be great way for Microsoft to take away the gimmicky feel of the current connect. I mean we can only play Dance Central so many times before we are like “Is this it?”

There were hardly any games shown. It was more like “Hey guess what we will be working on in the future?!” But with E3 right around the corner, I can see why they will wait to talk about games until then. They did show the new Call of Duty Ghost game, which looks very sleek, Can’t wait to play that one. FIFA looks amazing. I don’t really care for any other sports game around. Bit note they will be including Fantasy Sports to it as well. Forza Motorsport looks pretty darn good for the first racing game for the new system.

Oh and let’s not forget the Halo TV series that is in the works…with Steven Spielberg!! That was a shocking thing. Guess they game up on the constantly canned Halo movie huh? Wonder ho the jumping will look in the TV series? Maybe they will use a lot of Bullet Time effects for it? Hmm…

Over all we got to see the system, which is more than we can say for Sony’s PS4 (the controller only…really Sony…REALLY!) and We can wait to see what’s in store for the launch of the system. We look forward to E3 to get more info such as release date, price, storage space and confirmed launch titles. As of now the Xbox One will be purchased a little after the launch as there’s nothing that screams “Buy at launch!” to us. But that might change after E3, so who knows.

Well, we will be posting more about the Xbox One and all things video game related during E3 in June. Until then, take care!

Assassin’s Creed 3 (PS3) Review

I was going to try to do a video review for this game, but the camera screwed up (time to get a new one) lol! It took me about 21 hours to beat the game (just going through the main story, no side quests) which is pretty decent for an action adventure game. Please note that I played this game of the PS3.

Without spoiling much of the story, here are some of the key points of the game that stuck out.

Story

  • Follows up right where Revelations ended – Which is good.
  • Character Named Haytham (which you think he’s an assassin…nope…Templar)
  • Then you start off with a boy named Ratonhnhaké:ton, but he’s later named Connor. He’s voice by  Noah Watts (which is actually a native American)
  • Turns out the boy ends up looking like Taylor Lautner from Twilight – but there’s no sparkly vampires in this game kids….
  • In between the story of Connor, you come to the present for Desmond’s story and find keys to unlock more parts of the temple.
  • You end up speaking to Juno ( which is Hera in case you didn’t know)
  • She tells you more about the 1st civilization and their plot to save the world.
  • Minerva comes out of out where and throws a wrench into the plot (where….play the game to find out lol).
  • Fast forward to the end – It just makes you wanna punch someone in the face…..but you might be excited for the next game.

Graphics

  • As beautiful as the game looks, this shit is buggy as hell.
  • They need to release a patch to fix it. – Too many times have I run through walls, fell through the ground, and couldn’t kill my target because of me pulling some shadowcat shit and phasing through my mark.
  • The sound is pretty good.
  • Water is so pretty.
  • The horses look like late PS2. Why did the horses look better in the 1st game?
  • The weather changing was a nice touch to the game.

Combat

  • The combat has been completely redone for this game.
  • You can no longer hold R1 and square or triangle to counter. Now you have to time everything just right.
  • And it’s pretty much your axe against their MANY guns. But if you can stay close to them, then the enemies cannot shoot, they will use the dagger part of the gun against you.

DLC

  • I have not gotten a chance to play the Tyranny of George Washington yet.

Side Missions

  • You only get to meet other historical people, nothing to jump up and down for.
  • The Naval battles where pretty fun.
  • Killing the animals was…weird.
  • They only mentioned Altair and Ezio like once.
  • There’s no tombs ANYWHERE – which I found odd since you have Achilles mentioning that there were other assassin’s but they all were killed….So we have nothing….we know nothing about them? No homage, tomb, picture…book…postcard? Damn

Overall I would say if you own all 4 of the other games, then get it. Otherwise, just wait until it goes on sale around Black Friday for $35! (Mike)
